With the apparent cancellation by Hasbro of the Indy Muggs series 3 +4 (being reported here and confirmed by BBTS and EE), there has been a major change to our Mugg consciousness.... it is no longer a guarentee that ALL Muggs made will be successful or welcomed with open arms.. For some of us, who are the most ardent Mugg fans, this might come as something of a shock. For others, accustomed to seeing many toy lines come and go, such miscalculations by the manufacturer are an accepted fact of life. Where do you stand? One side? The other? Somewhere in between? Do you still feel as secure about YOUR favorite line of Muggs? (There is NO indication that this action will affect any of the other lines, and of course, we have 2 lines, GI Joe and Transformers, which have yet to see the light of day). How do YOU Loungers, feel about our FIRST real setback, not just in terms of the Indie line (the replies in that thread are already piling up) but moreso, how it makes you look at your Mugg collection in general. Is it even more precious to you today... or maybe a tad more precarious?? Nosy Mugg moderators (like me, LOL) want to know!

i think that it is a cause for concern. the fact that hasbro has decided to pull the next 2 indy waves, after they had already announced them raises some real alarms. it would be one thin if they ran the next two waves, having already announced them, and then decided to discontinue the line. we know that no line is going to go on forever, but to see such a quick conclusion come indy it makes me wonder how long muggs are really going to last. we all know that of the 3, marvel and star wars are far more expansive and have a much larger fan base than indy, but does gi joe and transformers?? im not so sure. gi joe and transformers connect well with the 'older' generation, but will it with the younger demographic? i guess we will have to wait and see. i do believe that we will continue to see our star wars and marvel muggs for a long while. i do not know how long gi joe and the transformers will last though.

I'm not too concerned about the cancellation of Indy. I am disappointed about it, because I buy ALL Mighty Muggs that are released, and was looking forward to some of the upcoming Indy Muggs, particularly Satipo. However, if you look at the obviously poor sales of all Indy products, from Muggs to figures to LEGO sets, the cancellation isn't much of a surprise. As good as Indy is, the property doesn't have the staying power of Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, or Marvel Comics.
I don't think this will affect any other lines at all. It's not an uncommon move for a toy company to drop its non-performers. I've seen it with LEGO, cancelling Harry Potter, Avatar, and Spiderman without any negative affect on their Star Wars line for example.
If we start seeing cancellations from Star Wars or Marvel, I will be more concerned, but I don't see it happening any time soon. I expect these lines, and the upcoming GI Joe and Transformers lines to perform well enough to be around for a long time to come.

I'm not to concerned either. The Indy muggs don't sell too well so It was kinda a given. The only thing I'm worried about is a certain wave not reaching my area. I'm still missing the two new latest starwars waves, but I've found the newest marvel wave. Odd huh?

I agree with mini above. I was selective with the Indy Muggs anyway and I am a little with the Star Wars ones, Gi Joe and Transformers were both a cartoon and comic so I believe that the they have a broader appeal . Not just to us, but to the fans of the upcoming movie(s) as well.
But to answer the original question, yes it did in terms of not getting my Tuxedo Indy and the exclusives I was looking forward to, but beyond that, no it didn't. I am not really worried about them canceling any other lines, I mean they can hardly keep them on the shelves.

I was terribly upset but Indy was my favorite line so far. But I cannot say I was overly shocked. They really were poor sellers. It should worry us as Muggs Collectors that they killed a line that was already announced. These were suppose to drop within 2 months. That means Hasbro had to start production further then prototypes & still made the decision to axe 'em.
I keep having to remind myself that these are really directed at the toddler and pre-teen age groups. That would make sense that Indy would go. Not many 6 year olds know Indiana Jones or want a Toht to play with.
I do believe that the Marvel & Star Wars will survive. Star Wars because of all the middle age people that buy up anything SW related. Marvel because superheroes are ageless. But I do suspect that we will see more repeats & repaints of the major characters of the Marvel Universe & less Galactus type Muggs as Spiderman is guaranteed to sell in any version, but a Juggernaut lets say wouldn't.
I must admit that I have been getting worried before this even happened. Everyone talks about how "hot" these toys are, but realistically secondary markets are the telling point of toy popularity & other than Venom Mighty Muggs sell for cost on sites like ebay. The last indicator that Muggs weren't "sliced bread" was that Walmarts/Kmarts/Targets used to have dozens of all the characters. With the new waves I noticed they are only buying a case at a time. Many of the stores I found the most at now are not even carrying them anymore.
What does this mean for GI Joe & Transformers? Who knows? Transformers may survive because of the new movies.....I love Joe, but don't know. Sorry for the long rant, but there is a cloud over the Muggs universe today.

My rep at EE told me this evening that they have no current knowledge of waves 3 & 4 being canceled. She is going to check with Hasbro and get back to me.
She did tell me that this would have ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT on their Exclusive Sallah and Short-Round Muggs.

Yes... yes it did. Indiana Jones was my favorite. I figured they would at least release the waves they announced. I really hope they at least release them as HTS exclusives, and that the EE exclusives are still on track.

Like some others have said before, I'm not suprised at all. the Indy line did not sell well, every place I went I saw tons of Indy. I'm not concerned about it having an affect on other lines because SW will never die and Marvel will not either. I don't mean to offend the Indy fans but that franchise just doesn't have the staying power that SW and Marvel have. Maybe if Indiana Jones had a comic book that was regularly printed it could have survived.

I ain't worried. The Star Wars & Marvel Waves have been solid. I figured the Indy Muggs would get cancelled just by how many of Wave 1 are still in the stores.
Indy just doesn't have the following that SW, Marvel, Transformers & GI Joe does....

I am not concerned at all, because as Sam said, Indy products just don't sell too well to the mainstream.

I am disappointed but expected it at some point. With Hasbro basically saying the regular Indiana Jones figure line is dead and they won't continue into '09 it kinda follows that they would cancel the muggs too. Indiana Jones as a toy license just isn't doing what Hasbro thought it would. In reality we all know there's no way it could have ever competed with the Star Wars brand and if Hasbro can't make the same kind of money off of it then to them its a waste of time. Maybe somewhere down the line retailers will pick up the unproduced ones as exclusives. Hint hint! That would make them more limited and have a bit more appeal overall. I am confident that the Star Wars and Marvel muggs aren't going anywhere for the foreseeable future though.

Of course the Indy line doesn't have staying power, what is a kid gonna want... Spidey or Indy?

Marvel seems well in my area; aside from Hulk, they fly off the shelves frequently. SW, on the other hand, is INCREDIBLY overstocked; I'll be lucky to ever see Revan.

Something else to contemplate: you ALWAYS see Star Wars and Marvel toys, G.I. Joes and Transformers on toy shelves. You DON'T see Indiana Jones toys like that. This is something to take into consideration before thinking your line will get canned.
