Growing up in the 60s and 70s, I was the typical geeky comics collector type of kid, collecting both Marvel and DC (yeah, I was one of "those" people who had complete runs of some silver age titles, who could have financed his college education or paid off the mortgage had I saved every book!). I would faithfully visit the corner candystore once a week (this is before there were comic shops, folks!) and get my fistful of 12 cent paper gold!
Now, decades later, this aging baby boomer is still a major comics fan and collector. Even though a nearby town has a couple of comic stores, I prefer to get mine by subscription. My Silver Age roots (talking about my comics now, children, not my hair color), are still VERY much evident in my collecting tastes. Like many my age, I relish what folks like Geoff Johns, Kurt Busiek and others have done to maintain my 2 dimensional baby boomer heroes (and equally have snarls for Brian Bendis, deconstructed comics, disassembled teams etc...). I love the invention of the Trade Paperback too (although I still get about 20 titles a month!)
Any other comics fans (or current collectors) here at the lounge? What are your favorite characters, storylines, artists or writers? Inquiring Lounge muggies want to know! LOL ;D

I used to collect comics up until a couple of years ago. I can't remember specifically why I quit but I'm sure money was a factor lol. I follow anything by Frank Cho though as I am a HUGE Liberty Meadows fan!

I've been into comics for a long time though I gave up collecting a few years ago. I've always been into indie comics. All I'm really reading at the moment is the Walking Dead. I still pick up trades (Madman etc) I buy a lot of stuff fo the art too. Oh and sometimes I just like a little mayhem!!

Can you still subscribe to comics. So they are dlvd to your house? If so, anyone link me? Do I just go to marvel.com? dccomics.com? darkhorse.com? etc. etc. And what are cool comics with good to outstanding storylines. Batman? Wolvie? Marvel Zombies? etc...

There are several online sources, most of whom offer percentage discounts for your order. With some, you have to order each month, others allow you to subscribe (but to also choose to change your subs at any time). I actually use this one: www.mailordercomics.com/index.aspThey offer choice of shipper (UPS vs postal), choice of shipping frequency and several other nice perks... I definitely recommend them...

I've been "meh" on Marvel since Bendis ruined the Avengers with "Disassembled" but I'm hopeful that eventually the 616 Classic Marvel Universe won't look so similarly dark as the Ultimate one...

I think that whole Disassembled has something to do with the Secret Invasion.

Yo. Been in and out of comic collecting over the last 12 years. Got back in a couple months ago and have sunk way too much time and money into it and see no end in sight.
Mark Millar, Garth Ennis, DnA, Brubaker, and Matt Fraction are my dudes.

I also LOVE trades. Marvel Essentials = Omega win. Loeb Hulk rules; I don't care what anybody says - they're wrong. Guardians is sweet and you should definitely read it. The must have comes out this weeks or came out last, and is awesome. Cap White has to be good or I'll cut my own head off. Give me my four-color funny books with four colors or give me death.
