I'm interested in attempting carving into a mugg, much like you would a jack-o-lantern.
I'm curious: has anybody tried this? What tools did you use to make precision cuts?
If they're too difficult, are there suitable substitutes that could pass as a Mugg head, but easier to carve into?
Thanks in advance, gang!
Sincerely,
Your friendly neighborhood Gremlin

I cant tell if you actually want to cut out the pieces or just scratch into the mugg head and engrave the design.
If I was cutting out the pieces I would use something like a Dremel minitool the disc attachements on one of those would easy cut sections out of a mugg head. I would also keep the head secured in a vice so you can control the Dremel with both hands.
Engraving onto the Mugg I think would be a bit more difficult as the plastic is very thin. I have used plastic etching tools to put registration numbers etc on the inside of motorcycle body parts But again the plastic is thicker on these things so I'm unsure what it would do to a Mugg.

What I want to do is carve into it like a Jack O Jantern. I want to cut out the eyes, mouth, as well as the lid, so that I can easily insert an LED light and replace it (if need be).

Anybody else have any suggestions? If I use an exacto-blade, how might I make the cuts? I can imagine that if I cut at an angle, it will cause problems with the look and feel of the face. Has anybody else attempted carving into a mugg?

I've cut into a mugg with an exacto knife but not completely through. It does work though for cutting into. Maybe like a box cutter razor type? Hope this helps.

I think DenJR is right - a dremel would be the way to go.
