As you all should know, Indy's line is being cancelled due to lack of sale. Is it Hasbro's fault that the Indy line didn't get to its full potential?
Really, think about it: Instead of Sallah and Shorty (that aren't exclusives), we got Monkey Man and Cairo Swordsman. Then Wave 2 came along and we got yet again anouther Indy. Why not put Young Indy or Toht? Why not put all of the minor characters (such as CS and MM) for later?
(I am a fan of this line.)

I agree. characters like sallah and marion should have been in the first 2 waves as opposed to the swordsman and monkey man. even thot or rene belloq. i love the indy movies and would have picked up every single one...and probably doubles.

Surprisingly, Indie Muggs did show up in Canada and I don't think they sold too well, as well as other Indie Toys. I think this might be another bad marketing from Hasbro with making retailers to order too much movie toys.

I also agree. Why on earth would they put out a Cairo Swordsman and the Monkey Dude before Short Round? It makes absolutely no sense. I bet this line would have done waaaaay better if they would have picked the right lineups. Even some of the Marvel line surprises me.

i don't think it's hasbro's fault at all. i think there was simply no market for these, minus a few devoted indy fans that are also collectors.
the indiana jones franchise isn't like star wars or marvel or gi joe. there isn't really a HUGE fanbase because there was a 19 year gap between movies, during which time there was not a mass of product being produced.
the kids getting into indy now were likely doing so based on the latest movie... and wouldn't know about 'main' characters from the previous 3 films. meanwhile, the adults who were big indy fans as kids back in the day... they've moved on. only a very few are collectors now, and even those... there's not much to collect as the franchise had been on the backburner for so long.
honestly... i'm glad we got the few we did. making indy toys was kinda a risk from the start, and at least in the case of mighty muggs, it didn't pan out. they could have not tried at all though, and we'd be sitting here saying how cool it would be to have an indy mugg.

Doc, I can't disagree with anything you've said. Great point.

It was Hasbro's fault, but not because of the line-ups in the waves (all of the Indy Muggs sold poorly--I see as many Indianas on the shelves as I do Cairo Swordsman), but rather how late they released these. Kids think fast when it comes to waves of popularity. This line came out months and months after the movie did.

They could have released some based of the new movie at the time of release of right before to peak the kids intreast is my thought.

I still think its character choice though, I mean I would of grabbed short round right off the shelf if he came out in the first wave. So many other characters would have been better choices. Like the Grail Knight would of been such a great character

Excellent post. Indy just doesnt having "staying power" anymore. Plus to me it was a very boring line compared to the other franchises.

Thats it right there. When Hasbro made the deal with EE it makes perfect sense why EE picked Shorty and Sallah, had they chosen Monkey man and the swordsman I think the line woulda had some lasting power. But thats the nature of business right? Its unfortunate that all the vendor deals are snapping up the best muggs of the line for their exclusives.
I still think that Tux Indy, Toht, Irina, Satipo, and Young Indy will come out... it may be way in the future and be more exclusives but I think that when some of the other waves slow down these will resurface, they have to - they've got them in a warehouse collecting dust.

I'm not an Indie fan so I dont know anything about the characters but I think the choice for the first wave was actually ok. The design is physically appealing and would probably end up better if they included 1 more character.

I would have to say that Hasbro have fault with the character selection. However, the new movie has a hand in the failure of Indy line too as the box office and DVD sale does not seem to do too well. I still saw tons of the toys related to the movie being on shelves even after Target put them on clearance.
Compare to the Indy movie toys, Batman movie toys seems to move slightly better as I have seen kids wanting them when I was searching for Punisher and Jigsaw, though what I wrote might only apply to the stores I went to. I even saw some person bought maybe four or five of the same Batman movie toy, the Stealth something, when Toys 'R' Us put some Batman toys on clearance.
