On one of the Q&A sessions held with Mattel, RTM received word about possible Mattel produced Mugg-like figures (which, given their licenses would make properties such as DC comics superheroes and He-Man possible. Here is the question and the OFFICIAL response:: 1. When will we see DC Universe Vinyl figures a la Mighty Muggs? Answer: This is something we are looking into if there is enough fan interest. It may be something offered on our new direct to consumer fan site. and here is the link: www.toymania.com/news/messages/10470.shtmlLet's keep our fingers crossed as this could easily open up a Mugg-like market to many additional properties (beyond what Hasbro has access to).. Come on, Mattel.... let's see a Mugg-like product from you too!!

What is this "direct to consumer fan site" he's speaking of? Are they making a Mighty Muggs micro-site or something?

Mattel is making a GENERAL consumer fan site where you will be able to buy REGULAR products (current lines being sold such as DC classics and JLI) as well as SPECIAL EXCLUSIVE products (such as the new collector-oriented He-Man line, available ONLY online, which is coming this fall). The new site (whose URL has not been released) will be fully operational in the fall.
(Muggs are of course ONLY made currently by Hasbro .. not Mattel.. and this is a question whether or not Mattel will attempt to make a similar product).

Ahh, got it. I think I was thinking this was Hasbro (you'd think I'd have read the title of the thread. )
I was excited that we were going to get a Hasbro MM's site.
Thanks for the info!

Meh... I don't want an MM rip-off... /signed. Mattel's last venture into "urban vinyl"- the Funkeys- was pretty dull a, best. They even had some licensed ones from Speed Racer, but he whole line was just... I don't know- lacking and unsatisfying. I don't expect that to improve much with a copycat line.

Surprised that so many are on the fence here.... or even skeptical/dismissive of the idea.
Personally, I like having minimates that are both Marvel and DC... The same was true for the vintage days of Megos (although in that case, one company holding multiple licenses).
I think it would be great if Mattel stepped up to the plate (and even a few others) to make Mugg-like creations. After all, there are many licenses that will probably never get made otherwise. Who wouldn't want to see Star Trek Mugg (clones) next to Star Wars Muggs or DC Superhero Mugg(clones) next to Marvel Muggs.
Also, the addition of a copycat (with decidedly different licenses) would also spur additional sales of Hasbro Mighty Muggs by collectors who then, couldn't resist (having even more related characters from which to choose).
Come on in, Mattel... the water's fine....
Let's see what you've got!!

Competition is good. It leads to better/more product.
