Yes, me too.... that is NUMBER 1 on my list (being a silver haired boomer, I was 7 when classic Trek started in '66 and have followed fandom ever since... Sure I loved the original (and the best) Star Wars films when they first came out in '77-'83 but classic Trek will always hold a very special appeal to me over anything, regardless of the special effects or "more realistic" acting style. I'm cautiously optimistic, given everything that I have read thusfar about the new film... keeping my fingers crossed.

That is JJ Abrams #1 goal .. to make a Star Trek movie that would appeal to folks who WEREN'T Star Trek fans ... (and thus open up the audience to a entirely new element). Supposedly, all of the scuttlebut I have heard is that there will be enough that is "faithful" to classic Trek both plotwise and characterizations, but more than enough that will be new and different and updated for a MUCH wider audience. I certainly hope so ... Time will tell!!! Here's a nice article from Trekweb that stresses the point: trekweb.com/articles/2008/07/04/JJ-Abrams-Says-New-Movie-is-So-Unlike-the-Star-Trek-Fans-Have-Seen.shtml
