Here's a chance for some nice memories of our youth .... what was your favorite "classic" gaming system?
Being a boomer (now 48), I remember when the original Pong came out (no, I don't remember dinosaurs or the last Ice Age, slackers!!) but given my age, I was in the perfect timing for both the initial Atari 2600/5200 phenomena which swept the world and the subsequent PC revolution in late '70s and early '80s.
So, for ME, it would have to be the Atari 800/Apple 2/Commodore 64 as a choice.....
I actually owned all three at different times (so I know who Jack Tramiel and Nolan Bushnell were!!) and really enjoyed them ... Remember how long it took to load the games on 5 1/4 disks back then? Remember the wars between Atari and Commodore users (even though a lot of games were ported between them?
Actually, my first PC was a TRS-80 back in '78 (anyone remember playing Temple of Apshai?) but the "next generation" computers by Commodore and Atari blew the TRS-80 away....

I'm in for the original NES. I still remember how back then I thought the R.O.B. robot was the pinnacle of human achievement hahahah
There were so many classic games on that thing, Mario Bros, excitebike, duck hunt, mike tyson's punch out, tecmo bowl, batman, strider, I could go on all day.

SNES was the greatest system ever made... Games like Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III (or VI, depending who you ask)... Can't touch it.

Heck yeah it was the bomb. Even on Sega 16 bit it rocked. One of the few games you could put CD in your stereo and crank it up and just race for hours at a time. I would hear the whine of the engine in my sleep. I saw a mint copy of Road Rash II at goodwill for 50 cents. I had to get it even though I have no system to play it on.

It's amazing the power those older systems have to "call" to us, even if graphics and other capabilities have been surpassed by more "modern" systems... Nothing beats the ingrained memory of hours and hours spent on some really enjoyable vintage game .. (maybe they even recall simpler times in our lives??)
Has anyone tried software emulators of these systems versus playing again "on the real thing" , the vintage systems. Some folks think that is just as good while others think it misses the "authentic" experience of playing the game on "vintage" hardware, controllers etc... Any opinions?

I would say if your going to play the games of the past, play the real thing. I just saw a sega 16 bit at a goodwill for 12.00$, but no power cord or controller. The hunt continues.
