Hello. Here's my second customization attempt (of a planned 12 character run), the leader of Alpha Flight, Guardian (classic costume). I know I said I'd be doing the more obscure characters, but being a proud Canadian, I had no choice but to make a place for him on my shelf. Being a character of relatively basic costume design, I decided that this would be my attempt at a SDCC type "gimmick" character. As such, although the pictures don't do it justice, I did all the red in metallic paint and the main "gimmick" is that he glows in the dark, just like his costume glows when powered up in the comics! Unfortunately, I don't have a black light to take a really nice picture of the glow effect, but trust me when I say that it looks pretty cool. The white parts really stand out, but everything does glow to a certain degree. I could picture this as a giveaway if we had a comic con the scope of SDCC in Canada, say in Toronto or something. As I prefer to do with my Muggs, I tried as hard as possible to capture the Hasbro design style... If you recall, I mentioned in my last post (Man-Thing) that since I consider the bottom of the box as "dead space" I put Marvel Universe style blurbs there, so I figured I'd show you all what I meant in the one picture. I think it's a nice way to give some info of the character... especially when dealing with lesser known ones. You'll see what I mean when I unveil my next Mugg as always, I've blurred out my upcoming characters on the boxes on purpose to add to the mystery of who's next lol... any comments/criticisms are always welcome. Thanks for looking and I hope you like it

He looks great! When you do Puck you should use a Teebo or a Wicket Mugg since they're shorter.

That is outstanding. Why is there blurred out spots!?!?

Although doing these customs is rewarding in itself, all the compliments and feedback are the icing on the cake for me. Thank you all very much, I really appreciate it To blojos: Not only is Canada finely represented superhero-wise with Guardian, there is a whole team of heroes named Alpha Flight of which Guardian leads, although his present costume is slightly different. To xssocx: I've blurred out the pictures of the characters on the back of the box because they are all of upcoming customs I will be working on. I want to keep them secret until they are revealed. As you can see, since I've posted my Man-Thing custom, I've left him unblurred. Hope this isn't too much of a nuisance ... don't worry, they're not blurred out to censor any nudity or anything like that lol Thanks again, everyone.

Very nice man, you have a lot of talent. Only thing I'm not crazy about are the eyes.

Wow! Thanks to everyone nice enough to comment. I appreciate it so much ....Guardian went so fast because of his simplistic costume design. My next custom might take a little longer to reveal because the design is a little more involved. I plan to work as hard as always because I'm anxious to see how these customs will turn out myself, so hopefully it won't be too long a wait for the next one. I think it will be safe to assume that I'm pretty sure you haven't seen this guy done before ...and to BALD, thanks for the praise and critique. All the input, be it complimentary or critical, that I can get can only help me to improve. Especially from a customizer as accomplished as yourself. So, thank you. I think you'll like the eyes a bit better on my upcoming custom Thanks again everybody.

Your customs are still the best I've seen! They really hold up the style of the muggs line, and I can't compliment you enough! Keep it up, and if the lines get canned I'm coming to you.

Thanks once again to everyone who took time out to comment. I should have something new in a few weeks... weather permitting. I do my airbrushing in an unheated garage, so I'm at the mercy of low temperatures or high precipitation. I got virtually nothing done this past weekend as it rained during all of my days off ...keeping my fingers crossed this coming weekend will be better... To doc117: Unfortunately, the boxes are a little more involved. I wish there was some sort of dedicated program. That would be awesome Most of the work was done in Photoshop. I scanned all sides of an actual Muggs box, then cleaned up the scans, then made rough templates from that. It took a few prints and trial and error to find a batch of close fitting templates. After all that, they're still not to perfect specifications. Once I print out a finished box template, I still have to check to make sure everything fits ok before I stick them on, and I usually have to do quite a bit of trimming to match everything up perfect... but then again, not every box comes from the factory exactly the same either ...All in all, (in Photoshop) it usually takes about (average) 2-3 hours to design the character picture from sketch to finished pic (sometimes longer if I'm unhappy with it the first time after I sleep on it) ...then another hour to scale that pic into proper position on all the box sides and adding text etc. ...Add around another hour for my bottom "Marvel Universe" style blurb. Then once everything gets printed out, it takes about 1-1.5 hours to cut and assemble the box itself. So it takes an average of roughly 5-6 hours per box... And that's just the box! I still have to paint the actual figure itself... Good thing I'm sick enough to actually enjoy doing this kind of stuff lol ...I've pretty much made these templates with myself in mind, so there's a lot of tiny flaws that I know about, but if I posted them in this stage, they'd be a mess to most of you. Perhaps if there's enough interest, I could attempt to "clean up" my work and post some more user friendly ones... but it wouldn't be for awhile. I have to take advantage of all the painting time I can get. I suppose it could be a future "rainy day project" ... we'll see
