Hi There! It's been a little bit since my last post, but here's my latest custom, number 5 of my planned 12, Mr. Immortal! Obscure as my selections tend to be, Mr. Immortal is the leader of the Great Lakes Avengers/Great Lakes X-Men/Great Lakes Initiative/Great Lakes whatever they changed their name to this week ...anyways, his only super power is that he's Immortal, and as such, he's been killed many times during his adventures. Of course, dying again and again would tend to make one a bit unstable mentally and so I tried to capture his trademark insane look with this custom. I came close to having the same look on my face when I had to do the black details with a fine brush. What a nerve wracking experience that was! It took about 4 hours of hoping I didn't slip up and end up with black where it shouldn't be... it's so hard to cover up black Luckily, everything went perfectly and the black on the outfit really makes him pop, I think. Of course, It's done in tribute to the Hasbro style in an effort to fool my friends Thanks for looking and as always, I appreciate any feedback. ...also, I'm looking forward to unveiling my next custom, as it's one I've been really looking forward to doing and (gasp!) a less obscure character... probably as known as the Man-Thing, I guess, so a little obscure, but not to the point of going on the Marvel Universe website for reference ....anyways, it'll be coming shortly...

Thanks SMC. I appreciate the praise as always, I don't know about being called a master, though. I think I have a ways to go until I deserve praise like that, but still, it's very nice to hear ...I can give you a few tips, although I'm not sure how helpful they might be. I have an advantage as I always do my boxes first, so I have a reference picture right in front of me at all times, which I find very helpful. My methods may be a little different than others (remember, I'm quite new to this) but what I do is I buy this yellow masking tape that Tamiya puts out and for my masking method I actually cut little pieces of it out with small scissors and stick it on the Mugg... I guess it's kind of like freehand drawing, but with tape instead of pencil That's how I get the little dots on the eyes just right. It takes a bit of patience, though, I've been known to peel off an entire arm or face and re-do it because it doesn't look right to me. But I'm pretty anal about these things. This goes without saying, but be sure to check where you've taped after you're done to make sure you didn't leave a piece you don't want painted. Also, with this tape, you want to wait a half hour before peeling it off to allow it to dry, and peel it slowly, otherwise you could peel off little peices of paint and have to re-touch later. Patience is key. As I said, I don't know if this will be of much help to you, but that's how I do it. That's why some of my customs take a while to do, depending on the complexity of the design (Man-Thing being a good example with all the rounded wavy parts) I've been known to spend 2-3 hours masking for certain colors. You can buy this masking medium that you brush on which may be faster, but I've never used it. Oh, I also like to use Model Master Acrylic paints in my airbrush if you'd like to know. Hope this helps.
